About Matt Naughtin

Matt is an accomplished violinist/violist, composer, arranger, program annotator, and author. He has been writing music since the age of 11, when he started taking music lessons.

Matt earned his bachelor’s degree in music performance from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He worked, taught and performed professionally in Chicago and Omaha before moving to San Francisco to become the music librarian for the San Francisco Ballet.

Matt has written music professionally for over 40 years for orchestras and chamber ensembles across the United States and around the world. His orchestral arrangements have been performed and recorded by countless orchestras worldwide. His arrangements for string quartet (and quintet) have become indispensable staples of nearly every working quartet's repertoire. Matt’s original chamber music is gaining recognition for its craftsmanship and beauty and is widely performed. 

Matt specializes in music written especially for children, and his works have been used extensively in family concerts and concerts for grade and pre-school children. His original orchestral compositions and arrangements have gained wide recognition and are played all across America in Christmas, pops, youth and family concerts.

Matt lives and works in San Francisco. The father of a daughter and a son, Matt is a proud grandfather, as well.
